Cruise lines are like chain restaurants: Each one has a signature personality and vibe that caters to different kinds of people. But there is no denying that some cruise lines enjoy more popularity than others.
Which ones, exactly? This is what a recent study sought to answer. Gathering the monthly volume of Google searches for each of the most famous cruise lines, we can see which lines are on people's minds the most.
These are the five most popular cruise lines in the U.S.

Starting out as the fifth most popular cruise line, Princess Cruises has developed a reputation for its high-quality food and entertainment. Expect menus created by respected chefs and productions worthy of Broadway.
All in all, it's not the most affordable cruise line, but the extras you pay are definitely reflected in the overall quality of the experience and staff friendliness.
4. Norwegian Cruise Line

Also known for its food, Norwegian stands out because it rebuffs the chaos of buffets. Instead, it has a dine-when-you-want policy that makes for a much better experience for everyone.
The cruise line is also known for amenities like onboard waterparks and fun, themed parties.
3. Disney Cruises

If you have kids (or are a Disney adult), there's no better line for you than Disney Cruises. While you'll pay a bit more for many of the same amenities that other lines offer, you'll also get to have some themed fun. Whether it's food shaped like Mickey Mouse or character sightings, you get to experience the magic of Disney at sea.
We're not at all surprised that this line landed in third place.
2. Carnival Cruises

Like its name suggests, Carnival offers an unforgettable party atmosphere that people absolutely love. Well, at least those who enjoy sharing space with thousands of other passengers do so. If you're looking for raucous fun, stand-up comedy, water slides and shows, you won't be disappointed.
While Carnival does cater more to a younger party crowd, ships also have family-friendly facilities, including kids' clubs in which children can enjoy activities while their parents relax.
1. Royal Caribbean

Drumroll, please! Americans are Googling Royal Caribbean more than any other cruise line. They might be won over by its over-the-top personality. Some ships include things like wave-surfing simulators, ziplines (yes, really), rock-climbing walls and onboard gardens.
Expect ships to be absolutely gigantic and to have so many activities that you'll definitely not get to do it all — but, hey, that's just an excuse to book another cruise!
