The Gwen's Art Deco facade is a distinctive feature of Chicago's Magnificent Mile, a large strip of Michigan Avenue. Take in views of the city from the hotel's chic rooftop terrace, where expert mixologists concoct perfect cocktails. Even if you can't afford to be a guest at the hotel, make sure to pass by it and take a gondola ride so you can pretend to be in Europe — if only for a short while.

Built in 1927, the Hollywood Roosevelt has grown up with Los Angeles and the movie industry. This classic hotel has welcomed the likes of Charlie Chaplin and Clark Gable. It was also the home of Marilyn Monroe for two years.

If you've ever walked around Bourbon Street, you've seen the Royal Sonesta New Orleans. One of the city's most prominent hotels, it is truly in the midst of the party. Guests are sure to see (or hear) multiple second-line bands filling the streets with the sound of jazz and the feeling of merriment.
And if you ever want to escape the buzz of Bourbon Street, all you have to do is head to the hotel's inner courtyard and take a dip in the pool.

One of the city's longest streets, California Street passes by major landmarks and has cable cars running through it. But the street can't compete for attention with the Fairmont San Francisco.
The opulent hotel is favored by presidents, diplomats and other public figures. Rumor has it that it even played an important part in the JFK-Marylin Monroe affair. Other famous guests include Barack Obama and Ella Fitzgerald.
If you can't stay as a guest, at least reserve a table at the refined Laurel Court Restaurant & Bar, or at the fun Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar.
